Insurance Policy
At Moto Himalaya Riders, the safety, security and well-being of our riders are among our highest priorities. Motorcycle adventures, particularly across the Himalayan regions, involve unique experiences as well as certain inherent risks.
Our Insurance Policy explains the insurance requirements, recommended coverage, participant responsibilities and procedures relating to accidents, medical emergencies, motorcycle damage and other unexpected circumstances during our expeditions.
We encourage every participant to carefully review this policy and arrange appropriate insurance coverage before beginning their motorcycle journey.
1. General Insurance Information
Moto Himalaya Riders organises guided motorcycle tours, Himalayan expeditions and personalised adventure journeys across selected destinations in India, Nepal, Bhutan and other regions.
Although we take reasonable precautions to provide a safe and well-organised riding experience, adventure motorcycling involves risks that cannot be entirely eliminated.
Participants are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate insurance protection for their selected tour, unless specific coverage is expressly included in their confirmed booking.
Travel, medical and personal accident insurance should not be assumed to be included in a tour package unless explicitly stated in the booking confirmation.
2. Travel Insurance Requirements
We strongly recommend that all participants obtain comprehensive travel insurance before joining a motorcycle expedition.
Insurance coverage should be suitable for the destination, duration, altitude and activities included in the selected tour.
Recommended travel insurance coverage includes:
Emergency medical treatment and hospitalisation
Personal accident and injury protection
Emergency evacuation and repatriation
Trip cancellation and interruption
Loss, theft or damage to personal belongings
Travel delays and missed connections
Motorcycle riding and adventure activities
High-altitude travel where applicable
Participants should carefully review their insurance policy to confirm that motorcycle touring and the intended riding conditions are covered.
3. Medical and Emergency Insurance
Motorcycle expeditions through remote Himalayan regions may involve limited access to hospitals, medical facilities and emergency transportation.
Participants are strongly advised to maintain adequate medical insurance covering emergency treatment during the entire expedition.
Medical insurance should ideally include:
Emergency hospitalisation
Accident-related medical expenses
Ambulance and emergency transportation
Medical evacuation from remote locations
Emergency repatriation
Treatment for altitude-related illnesses, where covered
Participants are responsible for understanding the limits, exclusions and conditions of their medical insurance policies.
4. High-Altitude Adventure Coverage
Many Moto Himalaya Riders expeditions travel through high-altitude mountain passes, remote valleys and challenging Himalayan terrain.
Certain standard travel insurance policies may exclude activities conducted above specified altitudes or on unpaved mountain roads.
Before departure, participants should confirm that their insurance covers:
The maximum altitude of their selected expedition
Motorcycle riding on mountain roads
Off-road or unpaved riding, where included
High-altitude medical emergencies
Emergency evacuation from remote areas
We recommend informing your insurance provider about the specific destinations and activities planned during your motorcycle tour.
5. Motorcycle Insurance
Motorcycles provided or arranged as part of a tour may be subject to separate insurance terms, depending on the motorcycle supplier, destination and booking agreement.
Any motorcycle insurance coverage included in a tour will be communicated during the booking process.
Motorcycle insurance may be subject to exclusions, deductibles, excess amounts and other conditions.
Participants should understand that motorcycle insurance does not necessarily cover every type of damage or loss.
6. Motorcycle Damage and Rider Responsibility
Participants are expected to operate motorcycles responsibly and comply with all applicable traffic regulations and safety instructions.
In the event of an accident or motorcycle damage, responsibility for repair costs, insurance excess or other charges will be determined according to the applicable rental agreement, insurance terms and circumstances of the incident.
Riders may be responsible for costs arising from:
Negligent or reckless riding
Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Unauthorised use of the motorcycle
Violation of applicable traffic laws
Damage excluded from the relevant insurance policy
Other circumstances specified in the motorcycle rental agreement
All accidents and mechanical damage must be reported promptly to the tour leader or designated support team.
7. Personal Accident Insurance
Motorcycle touring involves inherent risks, including falls, collisions, injuries and accidents caused by changing road or weather conditions.
We strongly recommend that participants obtain personal accident insurance appropriate for motorcycle adventure travel.
Depending on the selected policy, personal accident insurance may provide benefits relating to accidental injury, permanent disability or accidental death.
The availability and amount of such benefits depend entirely on the terms of the individual insurance policy.
8. Personal Belongings and Luggage Insurance
Participants are responsible for taking reasonable care of their personal belongings throughout the expedition.
We recommend obtaining insurance protection for valuable items such as:
Mobile phones and electronic devices
Cameras and photography equipment
Travel documents
Personal luggage
Motorcycle riding equipment
Other valuable personal possessions
Coverage for loss, theft or accidental damage will depend on the terms and exclusions of the participant's insurance policy.
Moto Himalaya Riders is not responsible for loss or damage to personal belongings except where liability arises under applicable law.
9. Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance
Unexpected events may prevent participants from starting or completing their motorcycle expedition.
We recommend obtaining travel insurance that includes suitable trip cancellation and interruption coverage.
Depending on the policy, insurance may provide protection for eligible circumstances such as:
Unexpected illness or injury
Medical emergencies
Certain family emergencies
Covered travel disruptions
Other insured circumstances specified by the provider
Cancellation insurance does not replace the Moto Himalaya Riders Cancellation Policy.
Any cancellation charges or refunds from Moto Himalaya Riders will be handled according to the applicable booking terms, while insurance claims remain subject to the participant's insurer.
10. Emergency Evacuation and Rescue
Some motorcycle expeditions may travel through isolated mountain regions where emergency rescue services are limited or difficult to access.
Participants are strongly advised to obtain insurance that provides appropriate emergency evacuation coverage.
This may include:
Emergency road transportation
Ambulance services
Medical evacuation
Helicopter evacuation, where covered and available
Emergency repatriation
Emergency rescue services are subject to local conditions, availability, government restrictions and operational limitations.
Moto Himalaya Riders will make reasonable efforts to coordinate emergency assistance when required, but cannot guarantee the availability or response time of rescue services.
11. Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
Participants with pre-existing medical conditions should consult a qualified medical professional before joining a motorcycle expedition.
It is important to disclose relevant medical conditions to the insurance provider and confirm whether the selected policy offers appropriate coverage.
Certain medical conditions, treatments or related emergencies may be excluded from standard travel insurance policies.
Participants are responsible for ensuring that their insurance arrangements meet their individual health and travel requirements.
12. Insurance for International Participants
International travellers joining Moto Himalaya Riders expeditions should ensure their insurance is valid in every country included in their itinerary.
Depending on the selected tour, this may include India, Nepal, Bhutan or other permitted destinations.
International participants should verify that their policies cover:
Overseas medical treatment
Motorcycle riding abroad
Applicable licence requirements
High-altitude activities
Emergency evacuation and repatriation
Cross-border travel, where applicable
Participants should also ensure that their travel documents and driving licences satisfy the legal requirements of the destination.
13. Insurance Exclusions
Insurance policies may contain exclusions that limit or prevent coverage in certain situations.
Common exclusions may include:
Riding without a valid or appropriate driving licence
Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Reckless or unlawful riding
Participation in racing or unauthorised competitions
Certain off-road activities
Travel above specified altitude limits
Undisclosed pre-existing medical conditions
Activities outside the policy's geographical coverage
These are examples only. Actual exclusions depend on the selected insurance provider and policy wording.
Participants should review all applicable exclusions before departure.
14. Insurance Claims and Documentation
In the event of an accident, injury, loss or other insured incident, participants should contact their insurance provider as soon as reasonably possible.
Depending on the nature of the claim, the insurer may request:
Insurance policy details
Booking confirmation
Medical reports
Hospital invoices
Accident reports
Police reports, where applicable
Photographs or supporting evidence
Other relevant documentation
Moto Himalaya Riders may provide reasonable assistance with relevant tour documentation where available.
However, insurance claims are assessed and processed by the insurance provider according to the terms of the applicable policy.
15. Responsibilities of Participants
Every participant is responsible for understanding and maintaining the insurance coverage appropriate for their motorcycle expedition.
Participants should:
Obtain suitable insurance before departure.
Confirm that motorcycle riding is covered.
Check applicable altitude and geographical limits.
Review medical and evacuation benefits.
Understand policy exclusions and excess amounts.
Keep insurance documents and emergency contact details accessible.
Inform the insurer promptly if an incident occurs.
Failure to obtain suitable insurance may expose participants to significant personal expenses in the event of an emergency.
16. Responsibilities of Moto Himalaya Riders

Our team may assist participants by:
Providing relevant itinerary information
Communicating expected riding conditions
Sharing destination and altitude details
Explaining insurance arrangements expressly included in a package

Providing available tour-related documentation for insurance claims

17. Limitations of Liability
Motorcycle adventure travel involves risks associated with road conditions, weather, terrain, mechanical failures and other circumstances.
Participants are responsible for obtaining suitable insurance protection against foreseeable travel-related risks.
Moto Himalaya Riders does not guarantee reimbursement for expenses that are excluded from or exceed a participant's insurance coverage.
Nothing in this policy excludes or limits any responsibility or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable law.
